Bringing in your Horse
An appointment is always required to bring your horse to the clinic .There is float parking for 4 floats or trucks at the clinic and ample parking across the road at the racecourse or in the public parking adjacent to the tramline north of the clinic.
Please do not park in the small animal practice car park.
Please do not bring dogs with you on your visit
When bringing horses to the clinic please be aware of potential infectious diseases or contagious conditions and mention any concern to reception when booking in your horse.
If your horse is visiting for a lameness or pre purchase examination it should be shod (if it usually wears shoes)
Horses should generally wear a chifney bit for restraint and these are available to be fitted if required at the clinic before unloading your horse.
Admitting Your Horse For Surgery
If your horse is being admitted for surgery your horse can have water but should not have breakfast on the morning of surgery, shoes should be removed unless otherwise instructed.
Any concurrent conditions should be discussed with your veterinarian these can include, previous laminitis,respiratory tract infections and heart murmurs these may influence the anaesthesia protocol used in your horse.
Any other conditions that you would like to have checked or treated should also be metioned on presentation; these could include such things as : skin lumps or bumps, vaccinations,teeth rasping etc
In horses older than 10 years a pre anaesthetic blood profile test should be considered. This will include checking liver enzymes, iron levels and hydration status and may help the anaesthetists administer the safest and most applicable drugs and treatments.
A consent form must be filled out prior to surgery
Post operative instructions and treatments will be supplied and should be followed precisely, if your horse arrives home without either of these please contact the clinic immediately.
