We are extremely proud of our laboratory and the service we are able to offer both day (out) patients and in-house hospital patients. Our laboratory area is always busy and constantly attended to by our experienced nurses. We have purchased a state of the art IDEXX blood machine to provide around the clock haematology and biochemistry results particularly useful for hospital patients as well as joint and abdominal fluid profiles which are often required in emergencies. Our veterinarians regularly interpret bloods for racing profiles for racehorses.
We are able to perform in-house packed cell volume PCV/ total protein TP/lactate testing thanks to our experienced nurses. Our Idexx machine also has bicarb, lactate and electrolyte testing useful for critical patients and assessment during surgery.
Furthermore we have twice daily sample pick ups from both Gribbles and Idexx laboratory for samples including culture and sensitivity, histopathology and bronchoalveolar lavage.
Our laboratory contains our platelet rich plasma (PRP) machine regularly used for joint medication and tendon healing and our IRAP machine, an interleukin 1 antagonist anti-inflammatory product use for joint medication. Both products have the advantage of not having a drug withdrawal time and will assist in the treatment and prevention of osteoarthritis in your horse. Our veterinarians will discuss the best option for you and tailor it to your horse’s specific requirement’s.
